Know the Basics of What It Takes
The Tools to Become a Writer
Writing a book takes time and research. My first year English professor once told me, “Writing is a process.” It takes time for you to get many of your ideas down on paper and not something that you can complete overnight with the hopes that its going to become a great piece of work. Whether you’re writing an essay, poem or anything that takes time to polish in order to really earn praise for it, it has to be planned, worked on, revised and edited, and drafted as a final copy.
If you were to write a really good screenplay today, it would have to take a few years such as maybe 2-3 years in order to get a push towards the many major industry professionals to really take it seriously. If you have a serious interest in learning how to write scripts, you also have to go through the learning curve as well as willing to invest a little. By a book on writing screenplays such as: Syd Field and the Foundations of Screenplay. I highly recommend reading many of Syd Field’s books. Also, you should enter screenplay contests, but make sure that they’re legit since there are a lot of scammers out their on the net. The best one by far is Internantionalpageawards.ca; a Hollywood based contest in California that looks for the next best script to get in the hands of the right people and helping you become involved in every way as they build your script into a movie. You can also verify which contests are real and which ones are scams by checking out moviebytes.com and look at its ratings for the best screenwriting contest.
I know I got a little carried away there since my title is about how to become a writer, but this is one area I also have great experience in as well as writing books for teens and young adults. I mentioned that I studied how to write screenplays. Well, I also have meticulously studied how to become a writer and in the process of publishing a book. The project that I’m currently wrapping up is called “John Tobio,” which is about a troubled youth, living life on the edge. I wrote this book for a couple of great reasons:
1. I was a troubled youth who lived life on the edge and never wanted to change at that time.
2. I was very clever and gifted, but never had a proper childhood.
3. I also want to let young readers now that they’re the light of the world and can be strong against any form of tyranny if they stand up, stand tall, and stand proud.
I know you’re thinking this guy needed help or he sounds like Charlie Sheen who needs some real intervention but, thanks for the offer. I’m actually really well off now in life as I have mentioned on my bio page that I’m a 3rd year student at York University for Teaching and a Minor in Filming and am also graduating this summer from the Writing Institute. My life is a lot better now as I’ve matured and moved on in life with the help of many great friends and family.
I hope that you guys are getting an idea from where I’m going with writing a book because this all clearly another way to say in short, “Writing is a process,” because you have to go through experience and understand it and if not take what you can from people you may know and turn it into a story. My Writing Institute teacher, who is also an accomplished writer, editor, and producer herself, once told me, “Experience is one of the most significant and fundamental aspects of life and should be regarded highly in order to become a successful author or writer .” I also recommend my tags on related topics such as:

One of the elements of being a great writer is the ability to read others works, critique the pros and cons and understand your own writing style.
While I can write well, (an organizational component), and have written many styles: poetry, short story (in 3 parts here: The Encounter), flash fiction: The Gambler, researched articles, I have a style for memoir and have used that throughout many of my hubs.
While you are 'in process' (which is a very good way that your prof. describes it) enjoy the journey.
I'm glad that you are moving forward in your life in a positive way, regardless of your childhood. Those experiences are rich material for other stories along the way...

I consider myself a writer. Even so, I have learned quite a few things here. Thanks
